“Appliances Online” Email Scam Alert

March 25th, 2013

Company News

Unfortunately, this morning we were made aware of an issue where Australians were receiving an email containing a purchase receipt which appeared to be coming from Appliances Online. This email contains a virus and should not be opened.

We have determined that these emails are coming from another country. The Appliances Online email database has not been compromised.

The email asks the customer to print out the purchase receipt as per the image below. Please do not open this email or any attachments, as this is a virus.

This is what the scam email looks like:

How to determine you are receiving a legitimate email from Appliances Online

When you purchase a product from Appliances Online we email you a receipt. There are two ways to determine that the purchase receipt email came from us:

1. Our emails will INCLUDE your name, what items you have purchased, and your billing and shipping address information.

2. Our emails will NEVER include attachments.

This is what our emails look like:

Appliances Online will ONLY send an invoice to you directly after your purchase, or upon your request.

The scam email is coming from “salesnoreply@appliancesonline.com.au”, whereas our post sales email is “sales@appliancesonline.com.au” or “despatch@appliancesonline.com.au”.

We are currently investigating this issue and we will keep you informed as more information comes to hand.

On her appliance wish list is a Hello Kitty toaster and 'Hero' the barking dog-shaped hot dog maker. She lives in Sydney. Google+

Hi Joysey – we believe that there is a virus in the attachment.

I stupidly opened it and McAffe didn’t stop it although a deep scan did pick it up and cleaned it. It appears to be a Z Bot password stealing Trojan according to McAfee. No other infections were found so I am assuming it was this one.

    Cheers

  5. Hi Drew, sorry to hear about this. Please let us know if you have any further problems.

  6. Nat says:

My husband received this email today (didn’t open the email, realising it was a scam) & I received a phone call too requesting address details. Although my name was not the name on the so called “sales” order.
