With most capital cities experiencing some glorious weather today, many households will be packing away their electric blankets and getting ready to do some spring cleaning.

But before they do, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued two more product recalls that could change some of those plans.

The Abode Electric Blanket was sold nationwide in Big W stores in a variety of sizes from March 1 2009 to August 7 2012. The models and keycodes are:

  • Single – Model BA111 (Keycode 7089466)
  • Single Fitted – Model BA211 (Keycode 7089527)
  • Queen/Double – Model BA212 (Keycode 7089619)

The ACCC has warned that the blanket’s control cord may wear out and cause an internal short circuit or overheating, posing a fire hazard.

Consumers with this product have been asked to immediately cease use and return it to any Big W store for a full refund.

However Big W wasn’t the only department store to receive attention from the ACCC in the past few weeks – an electric steam mop sold at Target has also been recalled.

Customers who purchased a Sieger Steam Mop (model STC-TROO1-GAU) purchased between January 1 2011 and May 16 2012 should visit their nearest Target or Target Country store for a full refund, after it was discovered that Flexing of the power cord may “cause electrical conductors to become exposed, creating an electrical safety hazard.”
