Samsung steals the show at the Australian Open
January 22nd, 2012
Panasonic may be the official TV, air conditioner and camera sponsor of the Australian Open, but if the weekend’s adverts during the first Grand Slam of the year were anything to go by one would be forgiven for thinking rival Samsung might be the main supporter.
On the back of Belgian Kim Clijsters’ tenacious win over China’s Li Na, last night’s viewers of Bernard Tomic’s masterclass with Roger Federer were overwhelmed by the repetitiveness of the Samsung Galaxy Tab adverts. Images of the Tab capturing galloping horses along a beach, and its demonstration of Flash-supported media (a swipe at Apple?) reigned through the matches.
The South Korean appliance and electronics company’s campaign was relentless, only a month after it’s tablet patent victory against Apple.
Meanwhile, the Australian Open’s actual appliance and electronics sponsor, Panasonic, kept its cool by plugging away at it’s Cool Moments campaign. Almost 41,000 Panasonic Facebook fans are in to win an Econavi air conditioner every day of the Open as part of it’s online promotion.
This is the third year that Panasonic has been the official TV, air conditioner and camera sponsor of the Australian Open.
Tonight, Australia’s fiercely competitive Lleyton Hewitt will come up against the current number one player in the world, Serbian Novak Djokovic.
