While LG only released its innovative door-in-door line of products just six months ago, the electronics company has already added a new model to the line-up.

The 661L side-by-side model (GR-D257SL) will now sit along the 907L and 730L 3-door and 659L French door models in the product range, and boasts additional features such as an adjustable door-in-door basket and in-door mounted ice maker.

The stainless steel exterior also houses a moisture balance crisper, tempered glass shelves and LG’s Pure N Fresh Filter technology to circulate air and reduce refrigerator odours.

LG’s head of public relations Phillip Anderson explained that while the door-in-door feature helped households to stay organised and reduce food wastage, it was the reduction in the loss of cold air that was the highlight for most consumers.

The additional access allows household members to remove frequently used items from the fridge more quickly via the designated compartment, rather than having to open the entire fridge door.

This additional access feature reduces cold air loss by 52 per cent in the first 10 seconds that the door is open – a significant difference, considering that one-third of Australian household fridges are opened between 30 and 49 times per day.

The difference that a loss of cold air can make to a kitchen is understood by no one better than LG brand ambassador and celebrity chef Matt Moran.

“Loss of refrigeration is so important for chefs in a kitchen because are trying to prolong the shelf life of everything that you have and the more you open the fridge the more hot air goes into it,” Moran explained.

“I’ve been notorious over the last 25 years for screaming at people for leaving the coolroom ajar even just a little bit.”

The new LG SxS DID Refrigerator (GRD257SL) is set to hit the market in the coming weeks, with a recommended retail price of $3,499.
