Everybody loves a BBQ, right? Whether it’s a quintessentially Australian experience on a roasting hot summer’s day, or, as I am more familiar with, a battle under grey skies and umbrellas in the UK, there’s a Neanderthal excitement associated with cooking outdoors.

The varieties of food, the combination of smells and the sense of healthy eating is enjoyed in gardens and beaches the world over.

But when winter hits in Aus, and the covers are donned on the BBQ’s after another season, is there still an appetite that needs filling for charcoal cooked shrimp and steak…?

If yes, then how about taking that experience inside? Disclaimer: Do not now take your BBQ inside to try.

No, instead, check out this new design from Electrolux. It is, apparently, an industry first – a built in BBQ for the kitchen.

Sure some may say that’s just an oven. But this has the charcoal cooking option and flip grill functionality.

The appliance is a perfect fit into an integrated set up of 60×60 models, including an espresso machine and the oven range from Electrolux.

It features the same user interface (UI) as the other designs, framed in a smart glass package.

The griddle allows you to separate meats and vegetables, with cooking coming from the coals below and a down grill above. And with a built in extraction fan, wafting smoke should be kept to a minimum.

Electrolux designers admitted to Appliances Online at the EuroCucina show, in Milan, that they weren’t sure what sort of demand there would be, but were hopeful of bringing it to the market by the start of next year.

Watch the video below for a closer look at the built-in indoor BBQ, and let us know if it’s something you could see or use in your home!
