Bosch launches ‘world first’ robotic lawn mower
June 18th, 2012
Combined with a robotic vacuum cleaner the device could see chore day becoming a much more pleasant experience.
We love Bosch. The stylish and functional range of European appliances are a popular choice at Appliances Online. But Bosch produces more than appliances, the company also makes car parts, power tools and now a robotic lawn mower.
In the tradition of robotic vacuums like the Samsung NaviBot, the Bosch Indego is a compact, robotic lawn mower that cuts the grass while its owner puts its feet up, making a lazy Sunday even lazier.
It appears to use similar technology to the NaviBot in that it can figure where it is situated in relation to its charger. It can then map an area, and navigate around obstacles such as shrubs, tree trunks, fences and bends.
The Indego requires a perimeter barrier to reference, either a fence or even a metal wire will suffice. It also has a security element and will sound an alarm if it is removed from a certain distance from the charge station.
After mowing 200 square metres, which takes around 20 minutes, it will take itself back to its electrical charge station. After 90 minutes it will be fully recharged and the Indego will go back to where it was last and continue. According to a Swedesh press release, where the mower is being launched, it takes 10 hours to mow 1000 square metres.
It is for sale in Sweden for about $2,000 because according to the press release, “the Swedish summer is short and should be fully utilized.”
