Bosch, GE and Whirlpool get thumbs up for reliability

The US equivalent of Australia’s Choice has rated Bosch, GE and Whirlpool as some of the most reliable appliances on the market today.

While consumers swoon over smart appliances with all the bells and whistles, and others look for style, sophistication and perfect integration in the home, consumer watchdogs Choice and its US equal, Consumer Reports search out and test the most reliable and trustworthy appliances.

Based on surveys from thousands of consumers, Consumer Reports has this week announced stellar results for fridges, cooking appliances and dishwashers, based on sense and sensibility.

For fridges, Whirlpool scores top marks across all styles. Consumer Reports says:

That’s even true for models with icemakers, which tend to be finicky given their complex designs and the extreme environment in which they operate. Kenmore is another brand to consider. GE, on the other hand, was among the more repair-prone brands of top and bottom freezers with icemakers, while LG has been among the more repair-prone brands of side-by-sides with icemakers.

In the kitchen GE’s ranges, cooktops and wall ovens were rated highly.

As far as maintaining appliances in good nick, Consumer Reports’ advice is:

Keeping cooking appliances free from grease and grime will help maintain their performance, as well as their looks. When cleaning electronic control panels, spray water or glass cleaner onto a soft cloth or sponge, then wipe. Spraying the panel directly risks getting moisture in the controls.

Bosch dishwashers ranked alongside Whirlpool as a reliable dishwasher maker; they are also regarded as having a high performance and efficiency.
